Reader Tributes:

For those of you who got excited after hearing "Welcome to Spaceworld! Let's go!" & dream of numbers like 100,000,000 or they who collected courage from the simple words "Good luck!" before heading off to save the world, and most definitely if you grinned after Mario smashed the last Koopa in a level or got twinkles in your eyes from Wario's treasure hunting and all around bashing, or if you just enjoy relaxing with a game of golf or some fishing.
Whether you bombed, bowled, got tetrisized, did baseball or tennis, if any of this rings a bell and makes you want to grab your Virtual Boy and set it up to play your favorite games, you must at least have a couple of fond memories from your brake-plagued hours behind the Virtual Boy.

Simply fill out the form below, it won't take you long, go for it :-)

What are your fondest memories from the game(s) you liked best on the Virtual Boy? What makes your favorite game(s) the best game on the system? How did you feel the first time you played your game(s)? Name the greatest parts from the game(s) you really enjoyed.
Through answering these questions and sharing your greatest memories you can tell others why you like the Virtual Boy. Please do not make your memories disappear, write them down and send them in, even if you can just think of one game and write a page full of it or five simple lines describing your memory of that one excellent game, still... the more game memories the better, give it a shot, it's great fun.
Oh and close off your tribute with name and location(country) if you want to.

Type your tributes out and e-mail them to us here or fill out the form below.
Need a freshen up on the games? Play them or go to THIS list.
~ We will start posting  your tributes as they come in, enjoy! ~

comments = I really liked the Virtual Boy because it was so different. After playing my SNES for so long, I wanted something different, but I didn't know what to try. I gathered a few more systems, until one day at my local Goodwill, I saw a Virtual Boy system for $10. I soon bought Mario's Tennis and Baseball, and I loved it. Later, I got V=Tetris and Warioland, and Vertical Force. I still play all these games when I feel like escaping from my everyday reality. I can be a fat man in a yellow suit after treasure, I can be in a spaceship saving all of earth, or just sit back, relax, and play some Golf/Mario's Tennis. It remains to easily be one of my favorite systems to this day.

comments = The Virtual Boy was a failure when I bought it. I always have had a huge weakness for the magic of Nintendo, and despite the critics, despite the mockery, despite the fears of eye-strain and despite the warnings that it was pure rubbish, I always wanted a Virtual Boy. Problem was, they were always over $150 whenever I walked into Toys R Us. Obviously, it was only a dream that I would never see. Too bad because for my birthday and Christmas combined, I only had $44 to speak of. However, I got my wish when EBX was discounting them for $24.99 a year and a half later. To think I just got a Virtual Boy with Mario Tennis for $24.99???? I WAS BUSTING!!!! I'll never have a deal like that every again.

Needless to say, I hurried the heck up and bought out every Virtual Boy game from them, even getting in on a few $2.99 deals too! The first Nintendo system EVER with accessories and games I had the money to buy! Cheap, cheap, cheap, and liquidation galore!

Wario Land was the funnest Virtual Boy game I ever played. It was the very 2nd game I got after Mario Tennis and I was an instant Virtual Boy fan! For someone who always loved those viewmasters as a kid that you'd toss the circular discs in and hold to the light, imagine my utmost unbridled enthusiasm to finally have that experience, but with full-moving, sky-high resolution, ALL RED VISUALS!!

You simply can't diss on the Virtual Boy for it's RED visuals. That's what makes Virtual Boy like nothing else in existence. That's it's identity. And frankly, I wouldn't prefer anything else. The dark nature of every Virtual Boy game makes it feel like something scary and mysterious. It totally recreates the experience of the movie TRON. A futuristic looking world with darkness strewn over every piece of it's world, but neon, glittering lighted pathways and battlegrounds, every man and woman and child positively GLOWING with technology. This is the magic that IS the Virtual Boy!

10 years later, now, finding this website, I can't believe there are actually games still out there that I don't have. I'm sure sometime on EBAY, I'll finally get those last few U.S. games... but Space Invaders at $300??? I wish I were rich!

I remember when 1995 rolled around and I saw this Virtual Boy in Game Players(tm) Mag. I had been following it for months reading up all about it and I was starting to desperately want one. It sure was too bad when it came out being $179! That was too bad for me because I only had roughly $44 to speak of. Christmases and birthdays came and went and at around 1996, I gave up. Virtual Boy was at least $150 by the time January of 1996 came and I only had $60.

By the end of 1996, though, you wouldn't believe it but my dream came true! I walked briefly into EBGames to gaze at all the expensive toys I couldn't own. And I looked down at the circular shelf they used to have, and the Virtual Boy box was sitting on the shelf. I sighed a long sigh looking at the box and the graphics of the games on the back. It still said "Mario Cruise" on it. Haahaa! But it was heavy! Like there was something in it. I opened the flap and the system was actually inside!! They never put a full box on the floor. EBGames never put the actual product on the salesfloor......unless it was cheap!! I looked at the price and it was....$24.99. HOLY FISH-PASTE!! WHOA!!! I knew it was a misprint. I knew it was. Because there was no way! But the friendly store-clerk confirmed it. This Virtual Boy truly was $24.99. I flew into my pocket like a missile and pulled out my $60. Then something else only made it better!

I looked at the Virtual Boy games all along the shelf above. They were all $4.99 each! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I literally fell to the ground crying. Haahaa. I walked out of that store with a brand new Virtual Boy, complete with Mario Tennis, WarioLand, Mario Clash, Teleroboxer, and GOLF! It sucked back then cuz, I only had a bike, and not the gorgeous FORD Escape SUV I do today. So I had this huge bag hanging in one hand, and pedalling my bike, holding one handle with the other, all set for the 20 mile ride home. But I could have cared less, eh? Actually, I'm lucky as hell that no one pointed a gun at my head and robbed me. And if that had happened.....well, I can't begin to tell you the ramifications of THAT nightmare possibility! Let's just say the word "bloodbath" comes to mind!

My family never cared anything about video games, but they loved this Virtual Boy. My aunt Jenny, who was taking golf lessons soon, checked out Golf and thought it was awesome. My sister played my Mario Tennis for about a week, nonstop! Then a week later, Mom suprised me with a copy of Red Alarm she found at KMart. What a woman! I love my mom. Red Alarm was amazing and is my favorite of all time. Well, actually WarioLand is.

I began to have this new standard of Virtual Boy prices being cheap that if I found a game more than $9.99, it was considered a rip-off. I had eventually found Kemco's Virtual League cheap, and Nester's Bowling for $10. 3-D Tetris, managed to get one last copy from EB for $7.99. Galactic Pinball, I had to bite the bullet and steal $15 from my sister to pay for it (I was a little jerk). Vertical Force, EBGames had a Japanese copy sitting there by mid 1997 for $5. That was awesome! But Panic Bomber was at the Good Guys for 4 years, and it was always $29.99 when I saw it. Everything was closing out for Saturn at cheap prices, PSOne games were flying away, even 32X games were being heavily discounted, but for some stupid reason, Panic Bomber was $29.99 forever. Sadly, Good Guys announced they were closing down and going out of business so I made an effort to wait it out. Thought Panic Bomber would be hella cheap the last few days the store was open. The very last day, I didn't expect Panic Bomber to still be there. But sure enough, it was! .....Went down to $27.98. THOSE BASTARDS!!! I could kill 'em all. (SIGH!!!!). But I paid the damn price and got it home. Years later, I guess I'm glad I did.

I'm so sad that I never saw WaterWorld anywhere. Didn't even know about it until years later. Can't believe I missed that one. Plus, Jack Bros. came outta nowhere. I never saw that in America either. Ya'll sure it came out in the U.S.???? Let's hope I get 'em.

I also remember playing it at my friends house and seeing it in the corner untouched and, sitting there playing it while he was playing Playstation :). It is indeed a fun console. To bad Nintendo had to be gay and destroy it. By now... they would have power gloves like the NES did and make it fully immersive... :'(

I'm a huge Nintendo fan and the VB was one of the few consoles missing in my collection. A week after my first game (Mario's Tennis) I bought a lot of 4 games on eBay. I'm still amazed by the real 3D images. And I'm still shocked this console didn't work out. Gunpei Yokoi was a great dude: d-pad, Game & Watch, Game Boy, Metroid and the Virtual Boy. This truly is a great console and it's too bad it was never released in Europe.

I got my system maybe 2 months ago (My parents wouldn't let me get it on its launch cuz I was only 3!)There is just nothing not to like about this system. I have very fond memories of Teleroboxer.I loved when I got to the hidden boxer and whooped his ass! The first time I turned that baby on I was overwhelmed by the 3-D effects, the fun gameplay, and the stereo sound. This is my favorite game because it is one of the only games on VB that seems like VR. When I first played the VB I was amazed! I literally cried in joy. I just have never seen anything like this wonderful device. If Nintendo had done better advertising and waited a bit longer, this system would have reached the hearts of all gamers and give them an experience like nothing they have ever seen! VIRTUAL BOY ON!!!!

However I when I first played the Virtual Boy and My first game ever was Red Alarm. I was Amazed not only by the way the game was FULLY and COMPLETELY made out of polygons and the realistic sound effects, But how the game was 3-D... (I don't mean *polygon 3-D* like you, Nintendo 64) But how you can actually think that you can touch you space craft and enemy ships... And that actually made me feel that I was in a real ship shooting enemy fighters! And even today I'm proud to say that I'm still experiencing the trill of Virtual Boy's 3-D effect's first time, every time, the Magical Nintendo Touch is still there....

than a kid's silly little toy, it's great to be remembered that before "adult/cool" gaming came along Nintendo where truly innovating with machines as wonderful as the VB. Ok, so not every games a classic but nothing has or will ever (?) come close to the utterly unique experience the VB offers. Warioland is one of the greatest games ever! I still play it just as much as I do HALO or METROID PRIME. As for this site - please keep it running forever! It's by far the greatest VB web site on the net and a fantastic source of info for new and old VB'er's alike!

I also didn't have money making abilities then,so 9 years later I finally bought it off a friend for $35 It came with the console,stand,controller,A/c Adapter and 5 games. I knew my friend had it for a while and I played it one day a couple of years before I never saw them ever play it it was sitting in a cabinet in thier basement, so I took the chance to buy it.It was funny because when I came over to pick it up everyone was playing it, his 2 sisters and his brother, and another funny thing was even his mom.ha! So thats my history of my VB, long time to get one if you want one don't give up looking keep searching!!!

Today, I got to play the Virtual Boy for the second time in my entire life (The first time was at a toys r' us when it had first came out, I was a little kid back then, I had no idea how cool the VB really was! I played the Wario Land demo cart on it!) Playing Mario Tennis was so much fun, using this site as a guide I WILL find more Virtual Boy games. I find the VB to be more than just a some undersold game system, I find it as a HUGE source of fun and quality entertainment! I can't believe the VB had poor sales, because if I were my age now back in the old days, I would of owned ever VB game by now! I love you VB, your my best buddy in the whole world! Everything, the the red and black gfx(red and black are my fav colors, bloody darkness, yay!), the great games(mario clash, red alarm to be specific) too many things to list. I remember the first time i played a vb. i was like 5, and i would go shopping. they would have a little display unit, and i would play it until my parents got wicked pissed. But suddenly, a couple of months after, the vb display units disappeared, and nothing vb related even existed in the store! I got soo pissed. but then, i met a new friend in the beginning of my 5th grade school year, i went to his house, and while i was sitting on his bed watching tv, i sat on a small plastic object. I examined it and im like wtf be dis? i looked at the back, and i see VIRTUAL BOY. im like WOAH u had a vb? So a month later, i receive my first virtual boy. that was last november. now, i got 2 vbs controllers, ac adaptors, 3 games(1 coming soon) and thx to ferry and Iko Da, i kno a lot more on vbs. And to anyone who thinks they give back/headaches, u are indeed wrong, also, the red against black does NOTHING to your eyes, u just didnt set up ur vb. VB On! Peace!

I have about 18 games for it and play it every evening. When a storm hits and the lights go out... I grab the battery pack and ship off to V-land! This is my all-time favorite system... If only Nintendo had the insight to realize it's potential... there would probably be a full-color version by now. Hard Gamers... Play Hard! Peace. -MS

I would spend ALL night playing this in the bed (under the covers, not sex, I didn't even know what that was yet). But, we had to be separated do the fact that in a dumb magazine article, they said that this incredible game system gave young kids around my age brain cancer (no joke, my parents told and showed me this), They returned it the following week and got me some SNES game (Final Fantasy III). But I was still Heartbroken.
Now that I'm 14, I'll get a job at GameStop or FuncoLand, or PlanetX or somewhere that carries them still and buy on. I just hope I can Find one soon.

He got it of E-Bay with a few games, Wario Land, Mario Tennis, A Bomberman Puzzle game, Teleroboxer, Vertical Force, a Baseball game in japanese, and a golf game in japanese. He couldn't take his VB with him, so he offered it to me and my friend. My friend had the money at the time so he got it. He never took it with him though. So it has remained here, with me in my home standing triumphantly complete with AC pack to replace the 6 AA batteries. My favorite moment that just was with the wonderful system was beating Wario Land, knowing that I had played, and beaten all the Wario games to be released. Even now, nearly 1 year later, I still try occasionally to beat Teleroboxer or the Harder Version of Wario Land that I got after beating the game.

comments = The Virtual Boy is an incredible system no doubt.
When the system first came out in 95 i was but 9 years old...Back then i was barely tall enough to reach the display stand to try the system. When i finally played the system i played a game called Red Alarm that was on display...I couldnt figure out how to play the game and i wrote off the Virtual Boy as "Stupid"...
Well six months ago...seven and a half years later i think...i found one in a pawn shop with all hookups including the Controller and AC Adapter and Tap and Mario Tennis.
They wanted 20$ for it and i gladly bought it...I didnt know why...But i knew the system was getting rare so i guess thats why i bought it. I guess my expectations for the system were "Conversation Piece" and nothing more...After all...I had a PS2...And i knew that VB couldnt shock me.
BUT
After getting the system and taking it home and playing it...I was just blown away...I couldnt believe how damn cool Mario Tennis was.
It actually felt as if i was IN the game itself!
This is something that my PS2 was never able to achieve...I just couldnt believe how immersed i was in the game as i had nearly lost track of time and played for what seemed like minutes...When i took my head away from the goggles...Three hours had passed and it only felt like minutes.
Ever since then i have bought numerous games for the system...But my three favorite remain...Mario Tennis,Teleroboxer...And what do you know...Red Alarm! :)
I just know that any system that can create an immersive experience that not even the PS2 can create is an incredible system.
My words to anyone doubting the Virtual Boy...Dont knock something untill you try it because in my case...I wrote the Virtual Boy off...8 years later...It's one of my favorite systems.
And of course...
Thanks for keeping this site going and keeping the immortal spirit of the Virtual Boy alive for a new generation!

comments = The VB will always be one of my fav systems, just the fact that it's a stand alone is a novelty. The game that stands out to me the most is Red Alarm. When I play my VB, which is actually still kinda often, I always make sure I can set down and play through this game. Other favs of mine are Jack Bros., Panic Bomber, and Wario Land.

comments = I never owned a virtual boy, infact I'm buying my first one very very soon ^.^ for a long time I have been fascinated with the system, and with such a small library of games its really easy to become a VB Expert. My friend has an Atari Jaguar and he plays Aliens vs Predator all the time, I can't wait to buy my Virtual Boy and show it to him, we're both very anti-mainstream gamers. I'm debating bidding on a copy of Insmouse on ebay for 100 dollars, but other then that I'm definitely getting Jack Bros, Wario Land, Mario Tennis, Mario Clash, Red Alarm, and Golf. Having watched the FaceBall american TV commercial I really wish that game would have been released, it looked AWESOME!

I heard it was possible to use the Snes Backup Unit to program the Virtual Boy very well, does anyone know where I might be able to grab one of these? I have a little programming experience and I would like to see what I could do with the VB.

comments = I loved, and still do love, Wario Land and Red Alarm. VB Wario Land is in my opinion the best Mario/Wario game that Nintendo has ever released. If more people had played that game the Virtual Boy might have lasted longer, giving developers time to make more games of that quality. Red Alarm was also a great game, if they had only made the graphics solid rather than wireframe it would have ranked as my favorite shooter ever.

El virtual boy no fue el fracaso; el fracaso fue de nintendo que no supo venderlo ni sacarle provecho con juegos que demostraran su capacidad VB forever!

comments = Always a Nintendo Fan, the VB changed my life. I own a games store here in Australia and console games were getting stale and "samey". A chance find of a VB in a junk store changed everything. I knew I had to own every game, and know every snippit of information I could. Luckily I have a huge Nintendo Magazine collection so was able so share my info with Ferry/Omeba and the rest of the VB world. Other Machines may have better graphics and colours but only the VB does what games are supposed to do and thats take you to another world, the 3D world of the "VIRTUAL BOY". VB On!!!!

comments = Virtual Boy is the BOMB system! There is NOTHING else out there like it, and for a system with a very limited library of games, the games that ARE out there KICK ASS. (For the most part anyway, SORRY TeleroBoxer...) I bought one from Electronics Boutique about five years ago for $39.00, and another about three years ago for $20. I'm totally in love! I only have about half of the available games, but I still have a BLAST with the VB. It truly IS the Vectrex of the 1990s. (Except it's a HELLUVA' lot cooler!) When I first played Galactic Pinball, and the puck transformed into Samus' ship, I almost had a heart attack! How awesome! Let's not forget the immortal Wario Land.....a TRUE masterpiece. Anyway, if any of you Virtual~Heads want to swap, or just talk shop, drop me a line. I'm still lookin' for Jack Bros., Nester's Funky Bowling, and Space Squash. I have a slew of MINT SEALED games. !!!VIVA LA VIRTUAL BOY!!!

comments = I loved the VB, and I still do. I wanted one really bad when it was released (95 in America, if I recall correctly) but couldn't get one because of the high price. But about a year ago, I got a used one off eBay for 25 bucks including three games (Galactic Pinball, Mario's Tennis and Telero Boxer). Two months later I bought two other games, V-Tetris and Vertical Force; Vertical Force being the first action game I own on the VB. I specially enjoy playing the VB in bed, though it usually leave a Nintendo-mark upon my forehead. This is the best thing Gumpei (May his soul R.I.P) ever made, next to Super Metroid. I think they really should start selling these again, but for a lower price. Gotta love the VB.

comments = I liked the fact that it is really 32bit, unlike any other portable system. (GBA) it could have great graphics if you ignored that only two colors were available on screen. The vb could have been the best portable system but nintendo cut it too short... you see the specs could allow great looking games. If someone could get their hands on a dev kit (hope it's me) we could see a real multiplayer adapter and blockbuster games and great multiplayer exitement even with the games that are released if the cord has a memory mod. to give any cartridge multiplayer support. hopefully in the near future that someone can create or get a development kit to revive the system.
