New Site: - Last updated March 26th 1:22 WST
Well after the merger with Ferry this page has been a bit neglected, Soon all of this page will be on www.Virtual-Boy.net but I am unsure what will become of this space. Maybe I will continue with "small" personal updates, or just leave the old site here for reference. Either way life has been interesting lately, too much to explain here but I got a Ball coming up in a few weeks, gonna be interesting.
I would also like to introduce a new site of mine, totally unrelated to anything here, but a web cam of sorts. It is at *Star* & Wiggy. Basically a personal web cam for the thousands of people who flow through this space every month. It has replaced my old main index which is no biggie. I hope you guys like it. Basic web design but hopefully some great pictures to follow.
Merry Christmas: - Last updated December 24th 8:16 WST
Well seeing that I wont be updating on Christmas day, here is a Chrissie eve update.
I haven't been able to Update www.Virtual-Boy.net as of late as I have been pretty busy, but as soon as I get into it we will see the site redesign and such. But Right now it's just kick back and enjoy the few days off we have :-)
Merry Christmas from everyone at the Weird Shit Zone! - Later
Merger & Me: - Last updated December 11th 11:20 WST
Well soon I will start integrating this site into www.Virtual-Boy.net and I am still unsure if this page will stay here. You will be able to find both "pre" merged sites on the main site just as a reference to what was, but I think I will redirect this page to the main one once I have moved it all over.
Anyways lots been happening outside the web page, I am finally getting a car! Although now I look at it, I can't bring myself to plaster it with VB stickers heh. I have also finished alot of ongoing projects to the current version which I'm happy about. My sister has been using this damn computer more than me lately so when I can drag her away from chatting we will see some more Virtual Boy related updates, so don't worry we will get back to it soon.
Lastly I will be putting up alot of my games for sale on ebay and this site, Nintendo and Sega related games and consoles and accessories. I need to move them fast so please support me and have a look. Thanks,
Big Event: - Last updated November 23rd 12:26 WST
Finally the name has gone through and we now have a www.Virtual-Boy.net and www.Virtual-Boy.org
How does this impact this page you may ask? Well I have joined forces with Ferry and will be merging this site with his to make an ultimate Virtual Boy page. It will be bigger and better than anything seen so far. The move will be taking place over the next few weeks, also with a site redesign in mind and a few little surprises.
So check out and bookmark www.Virtual-Boy.net and www.Virtual-Boy.org
Site back online: - Last updated November 18th 3:47 WST
After weeding through alot of unneeded stuff on my web space, I have now reorganized it all. The pages are all now directly linked, and should be a bit faster in loading. I plan to go through and update all of the "sections" in the coming weeks as they need an update, lots of things have happened since.
I am also thinking of a new site design, if anyone has anything in mind or can do us up a little design themselves send to Moldex0101@hotmail.com.

I'm in Love (Again): - Last updated November 4th 2:14 WST
Yes it has finally arrived, and before they
had time to put them on the shelf I already had my PSone in my hands.
This has to be the coolest looking "New" consoles out there. I know
what your saying, PS2 is only a few days away but I had to get this! Seriously. So
take a look at this baby!
I am still here: - Last updated October 20th 3:19 WST
Hi there, seems I've been neglecting this page a fair bit lately, it's more than likely because I've been keeping busy with other things. But I plan to do a huge update very soon, with all new pictures, and a good clean up of the sections.
Regarding Virtual Lab, I got a few good offers, some very stupid ones and actually 1 reasonable one where the person has lost contact with me. So as it stands I still have it =)
Thanks to Tinman for a HEAP of cool gaming stuff (Nes's, Megadrives, games and so on)
I would also like to point out to those of you who have your Virtual Boys put away somewhere, or if they are turned around si that you can see the "Virtual Boy" words, I suggest you flip it around so you have the eye piece showing off, this really looks very cool and shows a bit more of what the system is about. I now have 2 of them around my room looking pretty funky.
Last but not least, well probably anyways, I am now Blonde ! ;-)
Virtual Lab for SALE: - Last updated September 26th 10.59 WST
Geez the Olympics have taken over our Tv's
and radios and everything, not even Triple J is safe lately! Either way I have
been slack in the updates as the new Party Pictures are sitting next to my
friends scanner ;-)
I did however get the prints from my visit to dean (as I took Digicam and actual
photos of the games).
Ok Yeah Virtual
Lab is up for SALE.
Alot of people think I'm crazy for even wanting to sell it but hey you have to
be the crazy ones. Ok this is a BRAND NEW never been even taken out of the
plastic copy of Virtual Lab. Excellent condition. I will be accepting offers at
my new email address Moldex0101@hotmail.com
Any unreasonable offers will be ignored, plus it would
help if you supplied a feedback link for ebay or other such online places to
verify yourself.
Thanks - OmeBa

Weird Shit Zone on location - SD Gundam & Station 64: - Last updated August 19th 11.45 WST
Intro:
Today the Weird Shit Zone set for "Station 64" in Bayswater. As
previously stated we will be meeting Dean Young to talk Virtual Boy and get the
scoop on his Virtual Boy Collection and his VB Rental scheme. We have taken
pictures of the trip, Deans awesome collection of Virtual Boy games plus some
extra goodies.
Weird Shit Zone On Location:
Meeting up with Dean Young (Manager) and his Sidekick Andy we were set
for action (or a mass of Andy's "jokes"). After getting into some
"serious" vb talk not long after a customer wanted to "Hire"
out a Virtual Boy System with games. As luck had it, we were armed with camera
and all. The Virtual Boy comes with a neat case which houses the unit, the
stand, the pad, Ac Adapter and even has foam in between aswell as a copy of the
VB guide. Station 64 has to be the Only place that I have ever come across in
Australia that rents out the system and games. Dean also made his own eye shade
out of some rubber which seemed to fit cleaner cut to your face than the
standard eyeshade.
The Games:
First off I was greeted with SD Gundam to my face, yes in all it's glory
I touched the beast followed by a nice VB Setup with a crash course to Gundam. I
have to say the game isn't gripping, although if you spend time with it you
"sort" of get used to it. I'm sure you have read the reviews on SD
Gundam so I won't bore you here, but then it was onto Space Invaders, or was
that Space Squash? Anyways Space invaders has your standard mode 2d but also has
a 3d mode. The 2d mode is slightly faster than the 3d, but with the 3d mode you
are sort of looking "up" the screen as Dean put it. Now Space Squash I
loved and it was easy to play! As it isn't the most expensive vb game I suggest
you try and get this! Next was Insmouse which, well was sort of a
"Doom" Style corridor shooter which didn't really grab me.
The Pictures:
This had to have it's own section, so just click on the link to view the
picture!

Blue VB Rubber and Andy - Hiring out Virtual Boy - Station 64 Inside 1 - Station 64 Inside 2
Weird Shit Zone on the road - Possibly Lunch? - Weird Shit Zone enter Perth - Station 64 Outside
Station 64:
The actual Game Rental shop called "Station 64" is an
excellent source for your Video game needs as it stocks Playstation, Nintendo
64, Playstation and Nintendo Virtual Boy games and systems at great prices! You
can also purchase games and there is also a "Play before you hire"
setup which is free if you end up hiring the game.
Station 64 is located at 395 Guilford Road Bayswater, check for the "Playstation" sign out the front.
I would just like to thank Dean Young for his time and also letting us play his Virtual Boy (even while serving customers) :-)
Mr. Young shows us SD GUNDAM: - Last updated August 18th 8:24 EST
Yes you heard right, our good friend Mr Young will be letting us have a peek at his newly purchased game SD Gundam for Virtual Boy. The Weird Shit Zone will be on the road tomorrow and will bring back some excellent pics and reviews of the trip.
We will also have a great write up of a place you can Hire out Virtual Boy systems in Australia. Depending on Mr Youngs wishes we may or may not reveal the "actual" location.
Aha so it was YOU!: - Last updated August 14th 11:33 EST
Yep lack of updates again, but hey I have a good reason! I got a new job recently, well... that's not really an excuse is it. I have just been slack and that's that.
Greets out to all the new people visiting this page daily! The numbers are showing, and did I mention we had close to 10,000 people visiting this page last month! It's only half way through this month and we are already over half that.
Ok well catch you people later, and as I said for the poor, err "Happy" people in school, give ya teachers heaps! (Can I get in trouble for that??)

Ok so no picture updates over the last 3 days, why you ask? Well thing is there were about 3 rolls of film of which 1 was developed and I am still waiting on the rest. They "should" have come by now but seems not. Oh well you will have to hang in there a bit longer.
Also come on "Elders" let the
youngins view the page without any trouble, we will even put up an education
section to please you, even though the whole website is "educational"

Virtual Boy Lives On: - Last updated June 19th 5:59 EST
Just wanna thank those who emailed me for my
Birthday, thanks =)
Now the night was Interesting, the Virtual Boy was nearly always being used by
someone, lucky I had an Ac adapter. There were all ages using it, including 1
person under 7 years of age, although only for a few seconds. Then it was on to
the Nintendo Power Pad with up to 6 people on a twister style mat trying to get
in sync with the 8 bit graphics on the 34 cm T.V.
I will have pictures of everything up soon, including some snaps of various people "touching" my Virtual Lab heh.
Has it been THAT long?: - Last updated June 16th 2:51 EST
I can't believe it has been that long since I updated this page, my apologies to everyone. Anyway down to business, I'm sure you were all watching the Virtual Bowling Auction recently and probably gasped at the final price, so if you didn't here it is for you to see.
In Other news I would just like to mention that it is my Birthday tomorrow so I probably wont update then. But you never know =)

Everything is Quiet - Gundam 1, Gundam 2, Gundam!: - Last updated May 25th 2:08 EST
Shhhhh, everything seems very quiet lately. A few Virtual Boy deals on eBay, the odd rare item here or there but nothing major. Unless you were on of the bunch of people targeted by JPN Toys (Lets just call them Gundam Crazy people for now). Yes it seems if you have even typed the word gundam in your life you would have probably received an email from them with a nice Gundam model figure and some links to their web page.
Upon receiving the email I, like many others emailed them back asking "Do you have SD Gundam for the Nintendo Virtual Boy? Their response "No we don't have anything Nintendo". You can't blame a guy for trying now can you?
Cosmo: - Last updated N/A May N/A EST
Cosmo, aka Cozzy. A mainly black with white paws cat was he, always a friend or loyal companion whether it be the visitor, or the guy next door. Even though not our cat, he felt like it, around here more often than not he was treated equal but now he is gone. Cosmo passed away this afternoon, way before his time. He had caught something and was having difficulty breathing, he hung around day after day unable to touch him as he would cry out, we were not to know what was wrong with him. After numerous calls to the owner they would not have any part in taking him to be seen to, so that afternoon where cosmo was curled up in the garden helpless a helping hand came to light (which will remain anonymous) the problem was then identified and Cosmo had a chance. But no, the owners also wouldn't have any part in this, and Cosmo was put down.
We loved this cat like our own, and to see the heartlessness of how he was treated is sad and makes you wonder that some people don't deserve to own cats. We did all we could, but there are very stupid laws when it comes to things like this. We are Sorry Kobe. Cosmo our prayers are with you.

Regular updates will commence as usual in a few days.
We knew Blade were lame, but we now know it's run by 10 year olds: - Last updated May 18th 12.54 EST
Yes they have done it again, your number one Virtual Boy overpriced supplier has posted a statement that they will not obey Sony's wishes which they received in an email. The posting by Blade reads "(SCEA) Sony Computer Entertainment Australia is trying to force "The Gamers Edge" to lie to the Gaming World - WHY!!???"
Basically Blade (who are selling Sony Playstation 2 imports)
are attacking Sony, but Sony are being great sports about this when in reality
should be spitting chips that they are selling imported ps2's. Instead Sony have
written up guidelines to assist the Australian public when purchasing these
imports. They aren't stopping Blade import and sell, just conditioning them if
they do.
Here are the conditions set by Sony. Blade Electronics believe they are
"Lies".
(a) these products do not meet Australian safety
requirements;
True, as they are a product of Japan they
haven't even been reviewed in Australia.
(b) these consoles cannot be used for a 240v power supply
without a converter;
This is True, you do need a converter or
it will blow up.
(c) these consoles may only be used with NTSC televisions;
This is true, the Signal for Jap systems
is NTSC. NTSC Compatible tv's will also be fine.
(d) these consoles may only be used with foreign language
games;
By Sony's Copyright this is more of a
Legal Statement than a truth. Basically no mods allowed.
(e) these consoles are not supported by any warranty or end
user support from SCEA in Australia.
Ofcourse True, It's not an Australian
Product therefore no Support from Australian Sony.
Well there you have it, Sony's statements and conditions are completely True and are not "Lies" as Blade says they are. Boy oh boy, I wish they would put their dummies back in their mouths and lowered their prices while they were at it.
Virtual Boy eBay in Review - Last updated May 16th 5.22 EST
We take a look at eBay this week in relation to the Virtual Boy. The rare games, good deals and well weird stuff. As always we are in no way affiliated with eBay, but we do like em.
Something Rare:
SD
Gundam: What else can we say? It's even very rare
that this game even goes on eBay.
Virtual
Fishing: Is it just me or is this game going up in
value?
Something Good:
Mario
Tennis Jap: Even though not making the Rare category
it is still a nice find and cheap.
Virtual
Boy Deal: You should check this one out, it gets you
a Virtual Boy and 9 games which include Nesters Funky Bowling and the
increasingly popular game Waterworld. Take a look and see what you think.
Something Weird:
SNES
Virtual Boy: Huh? A SNES Virtual Boy? Check this out
for people who know their stuff.
That's no excuse! - Last updated May 12th 6.30 EST
Well major lack of updates over the last week, and of those little was updated. Well my excuse is ive been sick the past week with the flu *grabs another tissue*, but really that's no excuse is it. Well although not Virtual Boy related you'd probably be happy to know this space hopefully wont be cluttered with Sega Dreamcast and PS2 info that you see from time to time as I am one of the news updaters for dc-au. Which is an Australian Dreamcast page.
Gundam's still going on eBay but it's come to a lull at around $310 US, which is still not a figure to be sneezed at (pardon the pun). Anyways people go push it to some totally ridiculous price and buy it, meanwhile a touch of advice, when your friend says "are you paranoid about catching the flu?" Say yes, run, run for the hills ;-)
Wee Wee - Last updated May 8th 8.38 EST
A seller from Paris well known by his rare game auctions and petty feedback abuse has something special for all you VB collector wannabe's. Did I mention the game was SD Gundam?
The Blades Blunt Edge - Last updated May 2nd 2.07 EST
It's not like us to slam an outlet so hard, but for Blade Electronics which is a supplier of the Nintendo Virtual Boy in Australia we just had to. Yes you can purchase a brand new machine from them but don't expect it to be anywhere cheap. Anyway first off the customer service, web related and 1 on 1 is far from great, with waiting up to weeks for a reply on an email and getting different responses from their 2 stores is a joke. First off you get information about the same product which varies from either A) Who you speak to, B) Which store you call and C) What product.
Also the web page is a joke, especially the "News" section, the Sony PS2 Mod chip "release" date and information changes so often without a written correction, it just changes. It started off by a mod being available in march, then the date changed, then the information changed to "play games from all countries" which is sorta stupid when the PS2 is only released in Japan, and now a release date change to the end of April, Oh my we are in May. Now the Dreamcast mod is even more funnier, they keep referring to their "contacts" in Asia, do they have ***** or what?
Weird Update: PS2 Mod
Yes I am going to report it, in spite of Blade's poor service and
information source, and even though not directly to do with the Virtual Boy I am
sure you will be interested in this solid information straight from a US
Playstation 2 Developers lips. We aren't going to reveal the source to this PS2
info for obvious reasons but what we can say is that it is a daughter company
off a larger Main company.
It goes like this, the PS2 US Developers are soon to get a new Beta burning unit which can burn multiple Beta copies of games so that they can distribute the betas to testers and what have you. Now these "betas" are copies and are not originals, so keep in mind if you put them in a PS2 they WONT work.
Now do you all remember how the DVD driver is loaded onto the Memory card by the Utilities CD, which then the memory card is inserted and the PS2 Can now play DVD movies and play DVD Games. Well the developers get a similar deal but instead of a DVD driver to play DVD's it's a BOOT Driver to play copies. The catch is that once on the memory card the Boot driver cannot be then copied off, it is write protected, delete only. So how do they get them on the cards? They have a development "serial" tool which downloads the boot driver onto the memory card. Now I'm not stating any rumors but if hackers were able to obtain the driver at least or possibly the main source it's safe to say that they will be able to "work" with it.
Now isn't that a tad more info than an incorrect release date and false promises? I thought you'd agree.
Thank you - Last updated April 30th 10:49 EST
We would like to thank all the people out there who have
supported the site and continue to visit. With increasing numbers each month we
are starting to get recognised.
Now to business, eBay which is one of the richest source of Video Gaming
bargains seems to be dominating prices and value of certain games, Virtual Boy
in particular. It is surprising to note however that some of the rare games seem
to be able to slip hard core collectors hands and fall for cheaper prices, some
being Insmouse and Jack Brothers jap, which in essence still are very hard to
find. Virtual Fishing seems to be keeping a stable price of around $60 US but
Waterworld has been fluctuating rapidly.
Weird Update: We are gathering a collection of Game Boy games that either inspired Virtual Boy games or were ported to the Virtual Boy. Such Titles include Bowling by Athena who also did Virtual Bowling, which could be acclaimed as _The_ rarest Virtual Boy game and also Tetris and many more.
ViBE Update - Last updated April 25th 11:38 EST
Information on ViBE is few and far between other than what you read at it's web page. But direct info shows that Vibe has entered Beta testing stages and the winner of the competition also got a copy. The team working on ViBE are talented guys and have done an excellent job on the emu, it's been a long time coming for a mac version of a Virtual Boy emulator and I don't think anyone can complain.
Confused yet? We are - Last updated April 25th 2:11 EST
All these questions, like what happened to the vb message board? and why the hell does the Weird Shit Zone look all Weird? Well it seems as though all the posts have been deleted, but the board is back up, go here.
Also the weird format ofcourse is because of Easter, how was
yours? Wanna share? Email
us
I can tell you mine was one not to forget, surprise filled and just well
interesting, anyways enough about me, tell me about yours and how your Vb was
there in the action.
Happy Easter - Where's the virtual chocolate? - Last updated April 23th 12:01 EST
Well we here at the Weird Shit Zone wish you all a happy Easter. Lets all have a game of Wario or something to celebrate.
Into vb news, another link down! Yes the Virtual Boy message board is totally wiped/gone. We are hoping this is just a glitch in the message board forum itself and not permanent.
Finally a big thanks to Peter "Poits" Rogers for the Easter graphics.
VB Zone with no Weird Shit? - Last updated April 16th 4:35 EST
Another Virtual Boy page brought to my attention, titled the "Virtual Boy Zone". I suggest you go check it out!
Also what's up with the Virtual Boy Resources? I won't link them here as they seem to be down, and for quite some time. Anyone know what's going down?
Do something you VMU! - Last updated April 13th 3:19 EST
Ok, I finally did it, I took a walk and went down to a small gaming store, went in and checked out the VMU (Visual Memory units for Sega Dreamcast) and well, didn't know what to expect. So I bought one, don't have any games worth having save files and my dc isn't on the net so well, it's just sitting there, the small game boy like creature.... do something you VMU!
In Virtual Boy related news, it's quite pleasing to find that here in Australia the Virtual boy can be purchased brand new! Also second hand systems and games are also available if you look hard enough, but more on that when we present our Interviews.
Weird Shit Zone Hits the streets - Last updated April 10th 1:36 EST
Yes we are gonna do it, make fools of ourselves most likely but also on that token bring you the publics views and feelings on the Virtual Boy. Do they know what it is? Did they know it was by Nintendo? Are they going to buy one after having a taste of Virtual Boy on the streets? Have they developed a migraine from the 5 minutes of play? How many carts will get stolen? All these questions will be answered shortly, photos, the setup, the publics reaction and some recorded video footage on the event to come, you can't miss out on this treat.
An Interview with a Virtual Boy - Last updated April 10th 1:01 EST
We have some great interviews lined up for you in the coming weeks, even though they are people you don't know, you will get a good look at the Virtual Boy today, how they view it, some great tips and ideas for use of the Virtual Boy and also a guide for newbies with a section for purchasing yourself one of these funky little units. Stay connected as these interviews are not just text, more to come soon.
New Format - Last updated April 10th 12:24 EST
Ok so not a major change but a change at least. To your left the date format has been changed showing the Month and Date this page was last updated, in the headlines the date and time will be displayed the last time this page was updated. Why? Well to be a bit more technical and to let you see how many updates were on a particular day and also the weird hours they were updated on. Meanwhile the previous news section grows again, gee I need time for that.
Some call it Art: Ok ok long load time, but I just had to put these pictures up, you may like them, you may not. That is not for me to decide but I thought I would put them up to show support for the virtual boy still exists, even here in Australia. Thanks to James, Andrew and the camera man for these pics! In order "What my Vb will look like after the paint job", "Virtual Lab Inverted" and "2 guys looking into blank vb's".
Look what I got: Just thought while I had my camera out id take a few snaps of my Dreamcast, and also to note that my other Video game section of this website is so close to being uploaded it's not funny, all pictures are taken, all lists are written up, information is done, all I am waiting for are the pictures to be developed. Meanwhile take a look at my latest thrill. My Dreamcast!
ViBE Update: Speculation of the existence of the Mac Virtual Boy Emulator ViBE has been brought to light with the release of the news for the emulator landing on April 1st. Is this a ploy to confuse to think it is just an April 1st joke or is it just a coincidence, or maybe they like to play with us to keep the development under wraps. Either way 200 screen shots is a little over the top for just "news" but time will tell as Ferry says.
Virtual Boy Emulator: A new Virtual Boy emulator is soon to be released for the mac! It actually looks great, here is the news report on bannister.org "Today we are announcing ViBE, the world's first Dynamic Recompiling Virtual Boy Emulator! Harnessing the power of the CPU to the fullest extent possible, ViBE can run at over 500fps on an original iMac - and it should run at full speed on any Power Macintosh! That's right - ViBE will run on any Power Macintosh with MacOS 8.5 or later.
ViBE features excellent compatibility with Virtual Boy software. More than 200 screenshots are now available showing ViBE running Galactic Pinball, Insmouse no Yataka, Mario Clash, Mario's Tennis, Panic Bomber, Red Alarm, Space Squash, Teleroboxer, Tetris 3D, Vertical Force, Virtual Fishing, Virtual Tetris, Warioland, and Water World. This selection is most of the games available - and hopefully the remaining few games should work soon.
ViBE also has preliminary sound emulation, although this needs a huge amount of work (and is therefore disabled by default at the moment). If anyone has Technical Documentation on how the VB sound hardware works, please get in touch.
Finally, ViBE should (hopefully) not cause severe migraines, unlike the real Virtual Boy I have on my desk.
You've read all that and you can't wait to download? While ViBE is currently running well, it is unfortunately not ready to be released yet. In the interim, feel free to look at the ViBE page, which contains over 200 screenshots. Hopefully ViBE will be ready to be released within the next few weeks, so keep checking back for updates!"
Bidders on Crack: My goodness, if you haven't visited ebay lately then you have missed some very expensive Virtual Boy auctions, and this one has to take the cake for now anyways, Still got a copy of Waterworld sealed? then take a look at this Waterworld on ebay. I am glad I got my copy =)
How Exciting: Well I have taken time to take stock of all my game stuff and also pictures of it. I should be starting on the main page Video Tech very soon. Other than that I have turned to the dark side by getting myself a Dreamcast, just so I can have a mix of seeing red and seeing wonderful graphics =)
Anyways the Queen arrives tomorrow, we will be getting a good spot hopefully, but I still doubt the possibility of any signatures or anything of that kind.
Queen to sign Virtual Boy: If your up with the news at the moment you would have noticed the Queen is in Australia. Visiting all around, even schools. We are VERY unlikely to get a signature let alone a picture but hey who said we can't try? Now who is for a copy of Mario Tennis Signed by the Queen?
Weird Update: The Phantom guy has sent in some pics and has made us put up the pictures ahead of time so here they are. The Phantom, The Victim, The Victim 2 (Please note they are taken with a GB Camera)
The Sickness continues: Today I have received pictures taken by the "Phantom Phucker" of this new project he is conducting. I won't put any up until I have the story to go along with it.
Plain Sick: I have received an email from the person who is conducting the new Weird Shit Zone Project. The main part reads
"Greetings. This is The Phantom Phucker. Very soon my project will be complete. None of you will be spared, you will all be sick, you will be feeling nautious every time you look at your Virtual Boy. You will be reaching for buckets and towels. Many of you may be asking what this is? Well, when you see you will pray you never asked the question."
Well our credibility after this will probably be shot but hey, we are the Weird Shit Zone after all.
Rare Games - Enough already: Well looks like Insmouse's value has dropped, It's on ebay yet again! This is either in many peoples collection and they are just waking up to it's value, some Japanese guys monitored ebay and dug out their supplies or there are large crates of this game floating somewhere. Either way we know you want it so here you go Insmouse and why not get Jack Brothers while your at it. But why stop there? Get this great package if you need to complete your Collection Virtual Boy with 15 games. Ok that's enough advertising, now hows abouts some cash? =)
Weird Update: A local Sega Board has had a thread named "Who has a Virtual Boy?" and it is up to 51 posts so far! It is beating quite alot of the Sega ones on Sega's own board! That goes to show doesn't it.
We're Baaack: Indeed we are, sorry about the downtime but moving around alot and a little pc laptop to boot isn't all it's cracked up to be. I see that even though we were down for close to a week we were still one of the latest updated pages considering. Man it has been a burst of rare games on ebay 3 or so copies of insmouse, 4 or more Virtual Fishing, Jack bros jap, 2 or so Space Squash or should I say Space Aquash ;oP oh and those boring games that are common that no one cares about, SD Gundam and Space invaders!
Anyways everything is back to normal, or as normal as it can be in the Weird Shit Zone. Weird Update: A new Virtual Boy project is being conducted by a fellow virtual boy lover in the community, all I can say is you probably wont want to be eating your breakfast while reading his story =)
That time again: It's that time again folks when I drag out my Nintendo and Sega collections, give em a good clean and sorting. For your visual pleasure I will be posting pictures of my collection here so check back to get a look at what shit I have.
Give me those Rare games: It's that time again when someone goes and whacks a few rare games on ebay, so here they are direct links for your gaming pleasure. Insmouse House, Virtual Fishing, Jack Bros Jap.
Did I say no bug?: I was wrong, as we speak the PS2 is being recalled due to DVD freezes and overheating, and Memory Card corruption, this is a sad day, but lets hope sony rectifies the problem before all the other countries get it.
Like New Years without the Y2K bug: Yes it's that time again when History is made by yet another gaming console, the Sony Playstation 2 will be released tomorrow March the 4th in what to be one of the largest console releases ever for Sony. The countdown PS2 party will begin tonight, so we will post whatever you need to know. Now you may be thinking what has this got to do with the Virtual boy? Well not much really although it is slightly related, but you know me excited about any gaming console.
About the Dragon Hopper display pics, I am sorry it's taking so long but I will get them up asap, for the meantime go look up some ps2 sites and wish you had one =)
Japanese Virtual Boy: I was surprised today when unpacking yet another Virtual Boy from the mail I found that the white sticker underneath had no barcode? So I looked for the Nintendo help line sticker and I found Japanese writing. In other words it was the Japanese version of the Virtual Boy, in which I didn't have before this. The Most noticeable difference other than the stickers are that the EXT port is named the "PLAYLINK".
Dragon Hopper and then some: Well after skimming through a few old mags I found an E3 expo article with a picture of the Virtual boy on display and the caption was very nice indeed, well here it is: "Virtual Boy was still keeping it's head above water with new titles such as Dragon Hopper". Wow so anyone who went to the E3 expo in 1996 in L.A. would have got to try out this game! The virtual boy had the cool promo stands and damn they look more comfortable.
PS2 & Dreamcast mods: Huh? no virtual boy in this update.. this is a little exception. ***GROUND BREAKING NEWS*** seen here first unless someone else has posted it. I just got off the phone with this hot info.
DREAMCAST BACKUPS: Dreamcast backups will be made EASY and EVERYONE can do them, there is special software being released called "GDROM Soft" or to that liking, it will allow users to READ and COPY dreamcast gd roms onto a NORMAL cd.
DREAMCAST MODS: A mod is "said" to be needed for the licenced by sega part just like the saturn. It will be $50 install with 12 month warranty.!
PLAYSTATION 2 MOD: A playstation 2 mod is nearly ready. It will allow US and Australian games and US and Australian DVD's to work on the unit!
PLAYSTATION 2 BACKUP MOD: This is also in development to let you play copies of PS2 games. As most games for ps2 will be cdrom at first unless dvd needed itl be a breeze copying them I should imagine! but also all the old psx titles will mostly be available.
Ok I got this info just now off the phone with an importer who currently says he "has" this stuff (bar the ps2 stuff which arrives on march 4th) and has adverts for it in local papers and worldwide mags, and so on. Lets hope it's true.
We do not promote or endorse copying of games, this information is just for news value.
Rare Games: Woohoo thanks to Ferry for picking up part of my order in a deal we went in together my Red Alarm Demo arrived and after ferry played it so far it is exactly the same as the final version. But there could always be a thing or two that we may have missed. Ferry got his long awaited Virtual Lab and found a weird error in the word Nintendo spelt "Nintenndo" with 2 n's and sure enough I picked up my copy and there it is.
I'm Back: Yes well it was a very long day to say the least, very hot and alot of traveling. First few stops (10 or so) I actually didn't buy a single thing which was amazing for me, but at the last stop I purchased a bunch of really good condition Original Nintendo games, a Nes Advantage and a boxed Rob robot for nes! This thing is so cool and hard to find, All in all it was a pretty cool day, and after watching car after car pass or us passing them I noticed ALOT of .com advertisements for local and global sites which gave me an idea, well any ways next time for those who are interested I will be taking pics of each place I visit (not basically the shops but a place that looks cool in that suburb/town) and put them up here for you to see and also advertise my site on our car heh dunno how legal that is though.
VB
Backup unit: I
am currently chasing up information/locations on where to purchase a vb backup
unit similar to the Doctor 64 for n64. Hopefully something will turn up and if
at a reasonable price we could all own one, now wouldn't that be nice. Space
invaders didn't sell for nearly as much as last time on ebay, but it's like
anything, as Neil put Virtual lab on awhile ago and only got $190 and reserve
wasn't met and he recently got $500+ so it's a forever changing market.
Ok I didn't get to go on the Video game "Run" last week but I'm all
set for tomorrow morning 5am so if anyone's not doing anything feel free to drop
by and join us on our hunt for rare video games.
Multiple
Updates: Slightly larger update today, ok I'm
happy to say that emulation of the Virtual Boy has picked up a bit in the past
weeks but no specifics are available as yet, lets just hope for more
compatibility and improved emulation. As you may have seen Space Invaders is on
ebay yet again and it's starting to get into the high prices currently sitting
on $333.33 at time of this report, got the cash? get it. My latest attempt for
Space Invaders looks like it was dead before it begun, those people are touchy
when parting with the rare Vb merchandise hey.
For those Game Boy fans out there I have set up a special Mac patch page that
has Mac patches for Game Boy games, I am taking requests to port PC patches to
mac, and unlike the PC patches mine wont corrupt the rom file. Check them here.
Last update of the day im organizing another Video game "run" this
saturday, as always ya never know what you can find at these places, and for
this time im hoping to hit a total of 20 second hand shops on the 1 day, oh the
fun.
Virtual Boy Mod: After looking at my top loader 8 bit nes and the mod diagram to get video and audio out plugs as the nes2 only has RF out I was thinking the VB has stereo out already so a simple headphone to left right plug would do the trick there, but the video part of it could be tricky, but if there was a way to somehow find out what does what in the display and where to attach a Video out RCA Plug, maybe a project for David?
Jack Bros JAP on Ebay: Ok people I am selling my BRAND NEW Copy of Jack Bros Jap on ebay. Please check it out here.
Rare Game Pics: Ok so my games were new, but I at least took some pictures of my latest arrivals sitting on my bench here. They aren't the best of quality as my equipment isn't so cool but it's something for now, ok I won't lie they are crap quality. Virtual Lab+Rare games , Virtual Lab+Rare games 2
Virtual Lab Update: Ok some bad news, my Virtual Lab arrived today, but it was Brand New! Now I am not worried about that heh but now I am thinking about not opening it therefore I cant get any screen shots. I actually believed that when I bought it, it was second hand but alas it's new. I can scan stuff from them, I really also like Wario Land japs box it's a cool purple. Anyways sorry bout that.
Virtual Lab Footage: Ok seeing as some of you are interested I will be putting up movies of Virtual Lab running on a real Virtual Boy (Please don't comment on how crap I am at it heh) and il do movies of any other games on request except for the ones I don't have. Also I haven't forgotten about the competition it's nearly ready.
Virtual Boy Editing: A cool little tool now with support for the Virtual Boy called "Tile Layer". Its lets you edit Virtual Boy rom graphics, maybe one day if a flash rom is made for the Virtual Boy then we may see your own edited creations. Who knows this could help with the development of a home brew game. Get It Here
Hook your VB up to a TV thingo: As
you may have seen, Ferrys
VB page has a pic of a device that lets you hook your
Virtual Boy up to play it on a TV. The unit is part of a development set for the
Virtual boy but it's being hailed as the "VB on the big screen". For
one I would be more into the hype about an actual Dev unit! It's only common
sense that it should have a tv hookup, you don't really think those programmers
spent all their time looking through a vb headset did ya? =)
Anyways I have hooked my VB up to a TV using my video camera to look through 1
eye piece, it is totally not the same experience, the Virtual Boy was meant to
be looked through a small uncomfortable headset to get the full experience,
anything less will not suffice. In saying that I don't mean not to try it, it's
a bit less strain on your eyes, maybe not as clear but will still do the job if
you want a game boy style display with reds instead of greens.
Sorry for the lack of in-depth updates as I have been busy Psx deving and so on, it's damn hard when your just starting but none the less ive got some movies from my computer working on the psx and also resurrecting my old project "Multi Psx" which has about 3 or 4 playstation games on the 1 disc.
VB Demos: I emailed Nintendo about their Virtual Boy Demo Carts such as Red Alarm and this is what they said: "If a game is marked "DEMO ONLY," it's because it was made for use in a retailer demo unit. You know when you go to a store and they have a system set up with a game you can play? Most of those games are marked "DEMO ONLY, NOT FOR RESALE" or something similar. They are usually the exact same game as the commercial version, but are not meant for sale--they're meant for use with demo units. Some demo versions may have special programming to limit the number of levels, etc. or limit the time one player can play, to help prevent one shopper from hogging the demo all day at a store. (These types of limits are normally built into the demo system hardware.) Demo games are only available to retailers who order them. Only enough are made to send to retailers with demo units. These games are not available to the public. If you have the retail version of a game, you have a more complete, better version." Hmm so people don't stress as you have the more complete better version heh. Well it wasn't all that much of a help but at least it was something.
Japanese Virtual Boy Ok this slipped through alot of peoples hands as it was one of those ebay auctions where it was just "another" Virtual Boy. Ok what was so special about this --> http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=241094796 auction? First of all it went for around $20, but more importantly it was a JAPANESE version of the Virtual Boy with JAPANESE Tennis! I have seen Tennis Jap sold for more than this, and I'm sure you vb fans would love a Japanese Virtual Boy am I right?
Competition! Yeh we are having a competition here at the Weird Shit Zone, full details will be up soon but I can tell you the prize is a decent one, not only will your name be posted on the site but you will receive a special VB related something in the mail, so stay tuned.
Updated the Links section adding Nintendo Virtual Boy Resources which has recently had an overhaul so go check it out! Also the dreaded task has begun of separating my collections of video games and trying to take pics of each individual one for my collections page, there are thousands of individual pieces =)
Ok Big update today as the main page has now become a starting point for my other sections, still the Virtual Boy Weird Shit Zone is first priority and if you guys don't like it just email me and I'll change back. Fixed a few other links and uploaded most sections for the new pages.
Hopefully soon thanks to the efforts of Prince we will have
some exclusive scans of cart and in game screens of real life Virtual Boy
prototypes so stay tuned to this page and also Ferrys
VB page.
In other news I am just loving my Gameboy Light - Japan import. It has an
Indiglo backlight and it kicks ass, I suggest if you see one in the stores or Ebay
grab it! It is definitely worth it.
It's Clean up time, added a new section for the Previous
News as it was getting rather large =)
Shortly this main site will be parted off into about 3 sites or so but the main
address will have a link to this page so be prepared to update your bookmarks
soon. Sections will most likely be this one, my Nintendo/Sega collection and
other technical info. I want to keep this site however purely Virtual Boy.
Small update today, there are 2 Rare Virtual boy games going on Ebay. If your one of the lucky ones you could pick up Virtual lab or Space Squash.
Have you ever noticed (I'm sure you have) the amount of non updated Virtual Boy pages on the net? Just hitting in Virtual Boy at Altavista will bring up 20 pages or so of related links, but how many are actually updated regularly? Some are actually quite good and if they were continued I bet we would have of a much richer information source, but then again some are just crap with the same old pictures and same old incorrect specs. But I did find a press statement which I dunno if is real but it says the Virtual Boy will launch with Dragon Hopper and Bound High.
More pictures as they are uncovered, Id just like to thank Craig for his resources that we are pulling these cool Virtual Boy proto pictures from. Sega Dreamcast has knocked back my application saying they have all positions filled at the moment, but at least I'm on their list =). Anyways in the next month hopefully, an exciting Virtual Boy discovery will be uncovered so lets hope I can track it down.
Proto Pictures: This is quite a big update considering the amount of Prototype pictures I have for you. We have pictures from the Virtual Boy Prototype machines which had different coloured plastic and thicker foam to unreleased game pictures and demo displays. Check them all out in the Pictures section.
The Virtual Boy Nationals - Competition. Ok after alot of thought I have decided it would be cool to have a Nation wide Virtual Boy competition, 100% Unauthorized by Nintendo. This is still an idea in my head but here are some things I have come up with so far. We would have Video coverage and depending what country it is held in maybe Live TV/Cable coverage, at least 1 advertisement on TV in at least 1 country, we keep it strictly Virtual Boy, access to mini cameras hooked up into the Virtual Boy outputting to large screens so no one can cheat, we would get a HEAP of advertising if this thing did go ahead, net advertising I mean as in getting a PR group to set up an advertising core so we would be posted all around the net, the venue would be a large hall or centre, indoor ofcourse. Each participant would have to pay an entry fee and this would be used to cover cost of equipment, food, drinks, advertising and so on. Also we would have trade times so collectors can trade Virtual boy or basically any game or systems, we could get David Tucker to program a few carts with your favorite rare game on it as preliminary prizes and the larger prizes will be kept secret. Now Please ask yourself, wouldn't it be cool to meet up with other Virtual boy fans, Playing with and against each other in a video coverage competition, trading games and playing games you have never even seen before? Games that will be considered as comp games will be any US Titles and most jap games that don't require alot of Jap knowledge to play and YES the rarer games will be on display for you to have a go at. Now I need a VB team to meet and sort out the details that's IF this thing gets off the ground. Email me if you have ideas or would like to be part of the VB National team.
Prototype information! Thanks to my next door neighbor
who has a HEAP of old video game mags I have scratched up some early info about
the Virtual Boy and some prototypes. First of all the demo unit of the Virtual
Boy (YES there is a vb console prototype out there) has different coloured/type
plastic for the black parts which were blue, also the writing looks more
"cheap" as for the words Virtual boy, the controller had a red and
yellow button instead of 2 red ones and the eye shade was made out of a thick
foam unlike what it is today.
The prototype games so far that I saw were Mario VB which was like a 2d version
of Mario Clash (this game was either transformed into Mario clash or just got
canned) Teleroboxer Demo which was incomplete and had Demo on the screen while
you played and finally galactic pinball which was titled "Space
pinball". Pictures will be up asap along with more information as I make my
way through the mags.
Happy New Year! Ok so I guess if your reading this you don't need your bomb shelter, your computer is Y2K compliant, your stash of tin fruit is no longer needed, need I go on? Well to kick off the new year I have changed the page layout, hopefully this will be easier to navigate through, enjoy.
Ok so it's new years eve, there will be a few changes tomorrow so I hope you like them, if your sober enough that is. Anyways I am making a call out there to anyone who has Space Invaders, Virtual Bowling or SD Gundam, these are the only Jap Virtual Boy games I need and I'm willing to trade or pay a good price for them. Email me
Another Unreleased Virtual Boy game picture has surfaced, titled "VI Racer" it looks to me like a sort of Formula 1 racing sim with skimpy women for sign posts =) It's always the ones which look enjoyable that never get released hey. Well the Millennium creeps near are our Virtual Boy's Y2K compliant? Are all consoles safe? Don't ask me, just experiment.
My good friend Ferry has come up with the goods yet again, as he has found some awesome pictures of an Unreleased Virtual Boy game called "Mario Adventure". From the pictures I have seen it looks a cross between Mario Brothers from nes with extra big characters, also a 2d stage of Mario clash and also screens of a Zelda looking format. Seriously this game looks like it would have been excellent if it were ever to be released. At this time I cannot release the pictures, but stay tuned as Ferry's page will be up soon with a whole host of unreleased vb pics!
Merry Christmas to you all! It's that time of the year
folks, giving, sharing and celebrating.
Vboy news is short today, Space Squash just sold on ebay for around $178, My
friend Ferry's Virtual Boy page is still under construction and we will
hopefully see something early in 2000. Plus I have finally confirmed a deal for
Virtual Lab, Insmouse Mansion, Jack Brothers Jap, Wario Land Jap, Mario Clash
Jap and Mario Tennis Jap! Ferry got Space Invaders, Space Squash and also
Insmouse Mansion.
Christmas is nearly upon us, have you been naughty or nice? Anyways I have been looking at these Virtual Boy rarity lists and none of them have pleased me in accuracy. They are heavily outdated as you may know you can get half the "rare" games from various online stores. No matter, I have done my own updated list based on the previous list by Josh Wrobel. Check it out Here
Virtual Boy Xchanger and Flash cart? I wish. I have been checking out Bungs Game Boy Xchangers and flash carts which look supposedly easy to use, plug in the exchanger with ya flash cart in and download whatever games you want then whack it in your Game Boy and play away (only if your developing your own games ofcourse heh). One of the ambitions of the webmaster of The Unofficial VB Page is to make such a device if I understood correctly, an easy method of writing, erasing and rewriting roms to a cart and playing it in your Virtual Boy. At the moment my room has become an arcade of home consoles if that makes any sense, but when everything is laid out (from Nes to N64) I like my modified systems best and special editions ofcourse, My modded Snes which plays Jap,US and Eur games without need for a converter and runs at full screen and full speed and has also a modified slot so the larger (and cooler looking) US games can fit and to finish a quick coat of spray paint makes this my favorite at the moment. My Soon to be Blue Virtual Boy will be next, a new coat of paint, a modified stand and possibly sound improvements and a controller hack, till next time.
Ok Aussies, make sure you drink alot of water and wear that sunscreen, It's summer (or supposed to be) and it's damn hot. Hot days, hot nights and the occasional thunder storm with lighting and rain? All I can bring you in this update is to have a jug of ice cold water next to your Virtual Boy, being in that little headpiece is sure racking it up on your eyes and also ya head! Don't get dehydrated this summer playing your Virtual Boy people!
VB HMD: This was an interesting idea, using the stand in another way to support the Virtual Boy upon your shoulders and neck so it seems, we attached straps to each of the legs and wrapped it around from the back of the neck, doing it around the chest made the Virtual Boy too low. The VB is put on the stand and you have to move the position slightly further that it should let you in order to get a closed in view of the screens. Once on I found that it needed more support, which was done by strapping the actual VB unit from each side around near the 2 Nintendo rubber pieces were, this all worked but was unstable when you moved around, not that you would want to much but it just did. Problems with this design first has to be the neck strain, I would take pictures but you'd have to get me back into that contraption first, second of all the instability when you move around, light pierces through when you move, and to make matters worse my stand on the right has worn down the little notch that keeps the legs apart, you need to keep the legs apart because the further apart the closer the Virtual Boy is to you. More downsides is that if you didn't look stupid enough with a normal Virtual Boy then this will look ridiculous, It was described by someone watching "It looks like a neck brace or something". I am still going to work with this a bit to see if there are easier ways to attach it so less pain and more stability, but its just that because when you move at all it's attached to your head and that can either make it drop down slightly our of view or let light through. - OmeBa
Check out The Unofficial VB Page for the Virtual Boy Head Mounted display picture, we are going to try and copy that design closely as possible and will have pics and a write up of why it will work or why it wont.
Just for fun: We emailed Jwing of Japan asking kindly if they had any copies of Virtual Lab for Virtual Boy. After translation back and forth (thanks warman) they said roughly this "Sorry we have sold out of Virtual Lab for Virtual Boy but please try **** thanks." Ok no surprises there, but the suggestion to try another source from the company that made Virtual Lab was more than we expected. So we did contact the other source and I think you can guess the rest of the common story. But people again if you don't try how do you expect rare games to fall in your hands for reasonable prices heh. I myself are waiting for these 007 demo pics, ofcourse I believe protos and demos of unreleased games exist but for someone to actually come forth and claim they have one will have to do a bit more than say they do. Anyways Dreamcast comes out tonight at midnight here, im gonna check out the action, seriously these local stores are nuts, overpriced and overprotective about their game manuals but I doubt I will buy DC at the current price, hell I still have to fork out enough for Virtual Lab, Space invaders, Space Squash and Insmouth Mansion which I am going halves in with Ferry =) But watch this space over the next few months, I can grow tired of rare games easily and may try to sell them.
Who wants a new VB stand?!?! you can email us your ideas and designs and we may just have a go at it! Well not much new news to show for except some Vboy AC Adapter tips, main problems are for people outside the US wanting to play their vboy with an AC adapter will need a step down converter, we all love em don't we =) BUT If you wanna just get another AC Adapter and plug it right into the Tap it probably wont fit because the plug wont be as large as a snes AC Adapter. You can do one of three things, Buy a snes adapter, cut off the end and rewire it with your correct ac adapter for your country, Hard wire your ac adapter into the vb tap or you can just use a step down converter. Things to check when your using a different ac adapter is that the Output should be 10V DC 850mAmp or around there, The Vboy has a range of 6 - 13 V so it's got quite a good range.
Ok great news, the Virtual Boy Stand has hit the development process. We have several designs in which we will build, test out and even have YOUR opinion on them, for more info visit the Virtual Boy: Comfort is a reality section. The hunt for the Virtual Boy prototypes is on, wouldn't it be GREAT if someone was to come forward and display a prototype they may have had sitting away in their cupboard. The most likely place would be Japan but as I cannot speak or type in Japanese many information sources are hard to communicate with. Anyways check out these great links!
