Here are some brief reviews of games we think everyone should
own on the Virtual Boy since we have been
getting a lot of questions as to what games are must-haves for the Virtual Boy, so here
we go in random order:
- -The ONE game you MUST have is Virtual Boy Wario
Land, forget all the
GameBoy Wario Land
adventures, the Virtual Boy conversion is THE best! Leaping into the backgrounds, collecting
coins and treasures, secret rooms, kicking goodguy ass, it's all there and this is probably one of the VB's most
beautifully made games with a real eye for detail, great 3D animations,
amazing leveldesign and many different Power Ups in the shape of hats for
Wario (I love the King Dragon Wario hat that lets you shoot fire and fly at
the same time), with awesome soundtracks during the game this is all in
all a very exciting game. I took my time to finish it, and you shouldn't
rush through all the levels and end-bosses either, else all the fun will end
too soon. This game plays like a dream and will have you come back for more
(treasure) *Thumbs up*
- -Galactic
Pinball,
"Welcome to Spaceworld! Let's go!" If you like pinball arcade games, you will love this game, I've played lots of pinball games in my years and I think this is one of the
Top 5 best I've ever played. Who cares the 'ball' is really a 'puck', after
5 minutes of playing one of the many tables (mini-games galore as well!) all
you'll be thinking about is: who will get the highest score?
- -Red
Alarm, after you get used to positioning your fighterjet in the wire-frame
graphics environments, this game rocks! Speedboosts, guiding rockets, shooting bullets at
rapid-fire and hundreds of enemies to crush in the many levels you have to
go through, bosses that are harder to beat than it's good for your shield, basically
everything a good shoot em up needs is here, the game has speech in it too (pretty funny for
1995) and if that isn't enough you'll be able to REPLAY all your actions
from all directions once you finish a level! Great in-game soundtrack too, it'll make you want to save the world.
"Good
luck!"
- -Mario
Clash, not most people's favorite Mario game, you have to like the classic Mario Bros. game to enjoy this
3D conversion Koopa shield shooting fest, basically you have to kill all the baddies before time runs out in each level and there are tons of levels to keep you busy, either you're hooked instantly and can't stop playing or this will be a 10 minute game, I however still play it sometimes years after I bought it.
If I were you, I'd try and make it to the top of Clash Tower. Fun never came
to you this fast through pipes before.
- -Jack
Bros., kind of like an adventure game you'd play in the Arcades, there's nothing like it on the VB (gee, that's a
surprise, hehe), probably the closest to an RPG you'll see on the VB with
all the in-game dialogs, if you can find this game you better buy it as it has really
smooth gameplay. Pick one of the Jack brothers to play, each with their own
special ability (guess what Jack the Skelton/Ripper's is?) This game has a big funfactor as you must rush
(due to a timer) to make it to the end of the level (endbosses
there) while underway defeating a wide variety of enemies (who become better
as you progress) with all sorts of magic powers.
- -With every VB you should get Mario's Tennis (pack-in game), oh boy another Mario game you're thinking, well it is, but it's good fun too, the 3D effects are really nice and
noticeable, and with these great (but hard to master) controls this game got me hooked on VB instantly!
There's a lot of replay value in this game once you get into it, and the
addition of many different characters like Princess Peach, Toad, Koopa,
Donkey Kong Jr., Mario & Luigi brings enough variety in the gameplay to
have you come back for more. This game really is 'Ace'!
- -Panic
Bomber, it's like Tetris in terms of gameplay only far more challenging
on normal/hard-mode, this is a real braincracker with beautiful 3D
backgrounds to distract you. Hard pumping music will have you stressing on how to beat your enemies in this puzzler, adrenaline rushes guaranteed in this fast-paced
game where huge bombs mean salvation!
- -Vertical
Force, we shouldn't forget this 2,5D Arcade style shooter, it doesn't push the VB's graphics at all, but if you like these kind of shooters Hudson is famous for, you'll be glued to your screen
until you (in my case) run out of continues.
